The Consumer Ombudsman discussed the effect of digitalisation on consumers in a newsletter, blog (in Finnish) and at stakeholder events, such as the Advisory Council on Consumer Affairs (in Finnish). Key themes included platforms and the collaborative economy. From the perspective of consumers, particular attention must be paid to the availability and interoperability of services and that the division of responsibilities is clear in the event of failures and defects.

The Consumer Ombudsman also drew attention to data protection and security issues in a blog (in Finnish), for example, and also raised the topic at meetings with the Data Protection Ombudsman (in Finnish) and at the public hearing organised by the European Commission in spring 2017.
